Advertising On The iPhone (and Touch) Growing Fast.

Advertising on mobile has had a slow start but is getting a shot in the arm from Apple tech.

From msearchgroove.com conversation with Admob: “A look at smartphone operating system (OS) share reveals the IPhone OS has already surpassed the RIM and Windows Mobile operating systems combined. (In the US, the iPhone OS generated 48 percent of smartphone requests in December, up from only 9 percent in May. The RIM OS and Windows Mobile follow with 19 percent and 15 percent share, respectively. Only two months after launch, Android has captured 2 percent OS share.) Overall, Symbian is the number one operating system with a 41 percent share and more than a 90 percent share in Africa and Asia. (Download the report here.)”

Juicy Apple Numbers, More Apps In Pipeline at AvatarLabs

We’re finishing up a couple of fun apps (more on that soon) for studio clients and have more on deck. Our clients are seeing value in the quality of interactions that become possible with the rapidly increasing ubiquity of these connected mobile devices. (The app we created for Disney’ Bolt movie, Rhinoball, has exceeded 1 million downloads!)

Numbers just released in Apple’s quarterly financials show they had the best quarter in the companies history! Much of this revenue came from iPhone and iPod sales. more...

Online Better Bet For Smart Marketers

Online ad spending continues to rise even in the face of the economic “correction” we find ourselves in, and the primary reason is accountability and measurability. I pulled the following from a white paper by Geoff Ramsey, CEO of eMarketer. You can find the rest of it here. I hope you find it useful!

“In a downturn when your ad dollars get restricted, you move them into areas that are more direct and measurable.” —Ashutosh Srivastava, chief executive,WPP Group’s Mindshare Asia, as quoted in the Wall Street Journal, October 20, 2008 more...

Bolt “Rhinoball” iPhone app update

Erik Gilberg already noted this as a comment, but I wanted everyone to know that as of January 5th, the “Rhinoball” 3D iPhone game has been downloaded 1,013,515 times! Fully awesome! If you haven’t already downloaded it, you can check it out here. This is one of those amazing things about cool content on new media. Like the Energizer bunny, it just keeps going and going. AvatarLabs is looking forward to creating more iPhone apps that reach that 1 million download mark and then keep right on going and going and going…

Flash on TV?! Yes, please.

Read more here about how Adobe and Intel are working together to optimize a new processor for Flash content on Blue-ray players, cable boxes, digital TVs, and other gizmos with screens.

What this means? All of us in digital content delivery should begin to think about the possibilities of Flash capabilities on TV, and/or whatever TV looks like next year.

I am ready for interactive TV and Flash will be a great way to make it happen. Avatar’s large and growing team of A-list Flash designers and developers will be ready to take advantage of this new platform as it comes together.

“The Open Screen Project is striving to remove barriers for developers and designers as they look to publish content and applications across desktops and devices” said David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president, Platform Business Unit at Adobe.

Windows losing and Mac gaining

Is the superior iPhone and iPod experience opening eyes to what those in the content creation
business have known forever?

Windows market share dropped while Apple’s hit 10% for the first time according to this article.

My next question might be; will Apple be able to maintain it’s quality and usability advantage as it grows?

What do you think?
